1. What are cookies and what are they used for?
Cookies are text files that are stored on your device and used by the server to recognize your device when you reconnect, they are downloaded each time you «enter» and «exit» our site. Cookies are not used to determine your identity, but only your device, also to adjust the image displayed to the technical possibilities of your device, e.g. to its resolution or version.
Cookies are most commonly used for counters, polls, online stores, sites that require login, advertisements and to monitor visitor activity. Cookies also make it possible to remember your interests and adapt websites to them in terms of displayed content and tailored advertising. These files are used by almost all websites operating on the Internet — search engines, information websites, blogs, online stores, government websites, etc. Our website also uses them.
2. What do cookies do?
They generally operate based on the following principles:
- they identify the computer and browser data used to view the website — for example, they allow us to know whether a particular computer has already visited the website,
- data obtained from «cookies» are not combined in any way with personal data of users obtained, for example, during registration on services,
- they are not harmful to you or your computers or smartphones — they do not affect the way they work,
- they do not cause any configuration changes in the terminal equipment or in the software installed on such equipment,
- the default parameters of «cookies» allow only the server that created them to read the information they contain,
- based on your behavior on websites you visit, they transmit information to our servers so that the website displayed is better suited to your individual preferences.
3. What are the types of cookies?
There are the following types of cookies:
- «Session cookies» — temporary files stored in browser’s memory until the end of its session. These files are mandatory for certain applications or their functionalities to work correctly. When you close your browser, they should be automatically deleted from the device you were browsing on,
- «Persistent cookies» — make it easier for you to use frequently visited sites. These files are stored in the appropriate folder for an extended period of time which you can adjust in the settings of the browser you are using. Each time you visit the site, the data from these cookies is transferred to the server. This type of cookies is sometimes called a «tracking cookie»,
- «Third party cookies» — are files usually originating from advertising servers, search servers, etc., cooperating with the owner of a given website. They allow the advertisements displayed to be tailored to your interests and habits which in return often allows you to use some of the content of the service free of charge. With their help, «clicks» on ads, user preferences, etc. are also counted
4. Do you need to consent to our use of cookies?
Remember that you can manage «cookies» yourself. For example, web browsers you use allow this (usually the mechanism is enabled by default). Most popular browsers give you the option to:
- accept the use of cookies to take full advantage of the options offered by the websites,
- manage cookies at the level of individual sites you select,
- specify settings for different types of «cookies», for example, accepting persistent cookies as session cookies, etc,
- block or delete cookies.
You can find information about how to enable or disable cookies in the most popular browsers in their settings options.
